Personal Story Behind Our Vision
Why Connecting Generations Matters
The vision behind Mighty Generation Network CIC is deeply personal to me.
Read the story
I am a mother of three amazing children and a Sustainability and Energy Management Specialist. Like many families today, my own family is spread across different places. My parents and parents in-law live in another country, and although we remain connected, distance means that they cannot always be part of the everyday moments of our family life.
There are birthdays, school milestones, ordinary family conversations, celebrations and even the little moments that happen in between—all the things that naturally create memories between generations.
Sometimes I have found myself thinking about pleasant memories and experiences I got growing up close to my grandmother that my children are missing growing up physically distant from their grandparents. At the same time, I have thought about what my parents miss by not being able to experience their grandchildren’s lives as closely as they may wish.
Technology helps. Phone calls and video calls help us to stay connected. But there is something different about being together, sharing experiences and creating memories across generations.
That personal experience made me think beyond my own family.
I began to wonder about families who are separated by even greater distances, families whose older relatives live alone, children who have limited opportunities to interact with older generations, and communities where people of different ages live alongside one another but rarely have meaningful opportunities to connect.
I also began to recognise that generational connection is not only about family.
There is so much that we can learn from people outside our immediate families—stories, skills, wisdom, culture, faith, experiences and different ways of seeing the world.
And there is so much that younger generations can give back through their creativity, energy, ideas and knowledge.
This is where the vision for Mighty Generation Network CIC began to take shape.
Connecting Generations.
Elevating Communities.
I believe we can create opportunities for people to experience some of the connection that distance, busy lives and changing society can sometimes make difficult.
A place where a child can learn from an older person.
Where a young person can share their creativity and knowledge.
Where parents and families can find community.
Where older generations can share experiences that might otherwise be lost.
Where people from different backgrounds can meet, learn and create something together.
Relationships are the heart of everything.
For me, this is not simply about organising activities.
It is about recognising the value of relationships between generations and creating opportunities for those relationships to grow.
My own experience of being a mother with parents living in another country has helped me appreciate that connection should never be taken for granted.
Sometimes we have to be intentional about creating it.
That is what I hope we can do through Mighty Generation Network CIC—build bridges where there is distance, create connection where there is separation, and help people discover the value they can bring to one another.
Because when generations connect, something important is passed on.
And when people come together with purpose, communities are elevated.
I encourage you to join us in whatever capacity you can as we collectively Connect Generations & Elevate Communities.
The connections we build start with us.
Help create spaces where every generation has something to share and something to learn.
